Deploying Lighthouse 2.0

What happened to the launch?
I didn’t give a specific date last weekend because I was still waiting on the keys to our new EngineYard slices. They had some technical issues that delayed it for several days. I’m told it’ll happen this weekend. I’m planning on flipping the switch Sunday night/Monday morning. I’ll post more in here, as well as an announcement in Lighthouse itself, when it’s time.
A New Consultancy and Lighthouse 2.0
I’d like to announce something we’ve been working on behind the scenes since our move to Portland in December. Both Justin and I have been hired to work for entp. We’ve been working together for a few months as contractors, but it made sense to take things a step further…
DNS Issues
Engineyard had some DNS issues this morning. Sorry for the downtime.
Downtime last night
Last night around 9PM PST, Some of the Lighthouse mongrels started acting funny and returning errors. By the time I had logged in to take a look, Ezra at Engineyard had already restarted the mongrels. However, the app didn’t come right back up properly. After going through some log files, I found the cause: a log file had grown to enormous size and filled the drive up. After clearing the log and restarting, everything came right back up. Total downtime was about 15 minutes.
Possible Hanging issue in Warehouse
In case you’re experiencing odd issues in Warehouse where the application hangs and eats up 100% of the cpu time.
Lighthouse Problems... Solved!
I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m pretty sure we squashed the nasty ‘white-screen of death’ in Lighthouse. It turns out it had to do with the way I had things configured on the server. The great folks at Engineyard helped me track down the error message after pouring through a bunch of log files, calling strace on processes, etc. It’s been fixed, so things should keep running smoothly now.
Warehouse v1.1.5: SVN Blame, Simpler DNS Setup
Warehouse v1.1.5 has dropped, bringing SVN Blame support and an option for simpler domain settings.
Bringing in the new year
Wow, what happened to 2007? As you may already know, Justin and I set up ActiveReload headquarters in a really cool office space in downtown Portland, along with the great folks Kongregate. We’ve been keeping our heads low finishing up client work, settling into the new city, and keeping Lighthouse afloat.
Now that the 2008 is here, let’s get down to business:
Braindump
Boy, it has been a busy couple of weeks. We’ve been cruising in silent mode for a bit, while attending RubyConf 2007 and finding a place to live. Here are a few things swirling around in my head that haven’t made it to a blog post yet…
